 "An honest day's pay"

An artisanal gold miner at work in the Geita goldfield Tanzania.
After a work day of over twelve hours in the heat and sun of a busy mining camp, a miner empties his day's pay, a bag of soil, to begin the slow process of dry panning the crushed and washed red African earth to hopefully extract some gold from the residue.
Chances are it won't produce gold but it might and this is what keeps a thousand miners in this camp hopeful of a lucky strike, and eke out a living in the camp that plunges into absolute darkness at nightfall without any comforts whatsoever, that we take for granted: heat, light, electricity, flush toilets, they have nothing.
